Privacy policy

Last updated: October 6, 2026

CandyForKids (www.candyforkids.org) is a family-run project based in Ontario, Canada, serving families in Canada and the United States. We collect as little information as we can. This page explains what we collect, why, who else is involved, and the choices you have.

The short version

  • You can read every page on this site without giving us any personal information.
  • We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. We don't use advertising trackers, and we don't sell or share your personal information.
  • If you fill in a sign-up form or contact us, we use your details only to reply and to organize the candy drive.
  • Some links go to other companies (like Amazon). Once you're on their site, their privacy policy applies.

Information you give us

Sign-up forms. Our forms to host a collection point or volunteer are run on Google Forms. They may ask for your name, email, phone number, city and organization. We use this only to contact you about the candy drive. Google stores form responses on our behalf under Google's privacy policy, and this data may be stored outside Canada, including in the United States.

Email and phone. If you email candyforkid@gmail.com or call 647-883-4820, we use what you send only to reply to you.

Donations. Money donations are handled by CanadaHelps, not by us. We never see your payment details.

Information collected automatically

Hosting. This site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Fonts. Our font (Libre Franklin) loads from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's servers to download it. See Google Fonts privacy information.

Your country choice. When you pick CA or US in the header, your browser remembers it (using local storage) so shop links point to the right store. This stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can clear it by clearing your browser's site data.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they read and roughly where they're from (country or city level). It uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, device and browser type, and a shortened version of your IP address. We don't use it for advertising and we don't try to identify you. Google processes this data under its privacy policy, and it may be stored outside Canada. You can opt out with your browser's privacy settings or Google's opt-out add-on.

Food bank finder

When you search on our food bank finder, we don't save your postal code or ZIP code. Canadian postal codes are looked up in your browser. US ZIP codes are sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find the location. The list of food banks is part of our site, so the search itself happens in your browser. Map images load from OpenStreetMap's servers. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.

Affiliate links

Some links in our guides are affiliate links, for example to Amazon.ca and Amazon.com. If you click one, the store may set cookies on its own site to record that you came from us, so we can earn a commission. We don't receive your name, address or what else you buy. The store's privacy policy applies once you leave our site. See our affiliate disclosure.

Children

This site is written for parents and adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Student volunteers should sign up with a parent or guardian's permission. If you think a child has sent us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.

How long we keep information

We keep sign-up details and emails only as long as we need them for the candy drive, and delete them when they're no longer needed. You can ask us to delete yours at any time.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email candyforkid@gmail.com and we'll respond within 30 days. In Canada, our handling of personal information is guided by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. US residents can make the same requests, whatever state they live in.

We don't sell or share personal information, as those terms are used in US state privacy laws, and we don't use it for targeted advertising.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
